Overview

CoinTracker came to DEPT looking for a campaign that would stand out during tax season and show crypto owners that filing taxes didn’t have to be complicated. The campaign focused on three different audience personas and rolled out across social, YouTube, display, and digital ads. I joined the project as the motion designer, working with an art director and graphic designer to bring the campaign to life.

Role: Motion Designer
Agency: DEPT
Deliverables: Hero campaign videos, animated display ads
Tools: After Effects

The Approach

One of the biggest challenges on this project was scaling the campaign across a huge number of deliverables without sacrificing quality or consistency. Each persona needed multiple video lengths, four aspect ratios, and a full set of animated display ads, which meant creating bespoke animations for each video wasn’t realistic. Since every deliverable shared the same visual language, I built the motion system to be modular from the start. That way I could spend less time recreating animations and more time refining the details, all while making it easier to adapt layouts when copy or footage needed to fit tighter formats.

The Outcome

With projects that require a lot of assets, designing for scalability is just as important as designing the animation itself. Spending extra time upfront to build a flexible framework paid off throughout production.

The campaign reached more than 30 million YouTube impressions and generated over 17 million video completions, while contributing to a 16.1% lift in brand awareness and a 10.7% lift in favorability. Search interest for CoinTracker also climbed steadily throughout the campaign, peaking on Tax Day.
